Creating The Life You Want

It’s the first day of Fall and the Fall Equinox; this is a great time for renewal, change and letting go. Presently, many people are reflecting on their lives. Some may find that they are dissatisfied with their lives or feel that there is “something missing.” How can we get to a place where we are happy and satisfied with our lives?


1.) Realize That You Have The Power To Change Your Life

Almost every aspect of your life is influenced by you. Even if you don’t control every circumstance in your life, you control every action you take and every thought that you think. You have control over yourself and therefore control over your life. Often times, we become dissatisfied and disappointed because we think there is nothing we can do to change our lives. This type of thinking keeps us in a place of inaction. When we come to the realization that there are things we can actually do to change our lives, this moves us to a place of action which will lead us closer to living the lives we want.

2.) Change Your Outlook On Life

Often times, dissatisfaction comes from how we view things not how things actually are. Have you ever seen a person who appears to have everything (money, friends, success, etc.) but appears to be unhappy? You may have also seen the alternative in which someone with little to nothing is completely happy. This is because happiness is much more internal than external. How we interpret things determines our happiness. Therefore, simply viewing your life differently can help to improve your satisfaction with it. 3.) Envision The Life You Want

Most of us know what we don’t want in life but few of us have identified what we do want. When you are focused on what you do want in life, it makes it easier and more realistic to obtain. Write a description of the life you want, draw it out, create a vision board (The Reason Vision Boards Work and How to Make One) etc. Have a vision for your goals and the life you want. From there you can implement the actions that will help to make your life goals a reality.


4.) Let Go Of What Makes You Unhappy

Many of us tend to hold on to things that make us unhappy while still expecting to find happiness. How can we live happy lives if we are consistently doing things that make us unhappy?  Often times, we are not aware of how many day-to-day activities we engage in that are not conducive of our happiness. Start becoming aware of each action you engage in. Ask yourself, “how is this contributing to maintaining the life I want?” It is only when we let go of what makes us unhappy, that we have room for the things that make us happy.

5.) Do What Makes You Happy

Fill your life with things that add to your happiness. Don’t just save these things for special occasions or spontaneous rewards but instead use them for everyday living. Do things that you enjoy each day, spend time with the people you want to be around, find a job that fulfills you, spend time in places you enjoy going to, read and watch things that contribute to your happiness. Start making enjoyable activities more frequent and the activities you don’t enjoy more rare. This is an easy recipe for happiness.

6.) Follow Your Spirit

Many of us have not yet found happiness in life because we are wrapped up in physical and mental expectations that do not align with our spiritual needs. What is your spirit craving? What does the non-physical part of you want? What things feed your passion and intrinsic desires? When we learn to live lives guided by spirit, things become easier, because at that point, we are aligning with our true desires and purpose which will ultimately lead to happiness.

The most important thing to remember is that you do have the power to change your life. No matter how terrible or chaotic things may seem, there is always something you can do to make it better. The first step is realizing your power and then from there, you can start to implement things that will gradually lead you to life you truly want and deserve.
